Carat
When talking about the diamond carat, basically you are talking about how heavy the diamond actually is. Many people have heard of the word caret and they associate it with the higher the carat, the more expensive and better the diamond.
This is true but what the carat actually does stand for is the weight and it is basically the more that the diamond weighs, the higher the carat. So now you know what carat means, but how does it affect your choice in diamond?
Carat Affects A Diamond
The most common types of diamonds found today are smaller diamonds and so you are most likely to find a 2 carat diamond than you are a 21 carat princess cut diamond. So this means that the bigger the diamond, the more you will have to pay.
However, whilst the size does usually matter in regards to the price, you may still be able to get a 5 carat diamond ring for a good price if its clarity and color are marked down a little. It will still look really nice and you will be giving the person you love a bigger diamond. Also, you can still get a more expensive ½ carat diamond than a 2 carat diamond for example a 14k white gold ½ carat t.w three stone diamond necklace would cost quite a bit because it is white gold.
Generally though a 2 carat diamond engagement ring can be just as good as a 5 carat ring, it is all about how much you love the person that really counts.
t Size Diamond You Should Buy
This is a question which many people have and it can be confusing if you really do know nothing about diamonds.
Usually when you look in a jewelry magazine, you will see mainly 1 carat diamond rings. There could be many different types of rings including a 1 carat diamond solitaire ring or a 1 carat diamond engagement ring but they are mainly 1 or 2 carats. These are perfectly fine to get as presents and most diamonds look sparkly. You will mainly want to take into account the color of the diamond and the cut of it as that is what mainly gives it its quality.
So if there is a mark down in quality on a 3 carat diamond engagement ring, you may be able to get it for the same price as a 2 carat diamond ring. However, a 2 carat princess cut diamond will be slightly more expensive than an ordinary 2 carat diamond because the cut is different. No matter what the carat, a princess cut diamond ring will always usually be more expensive than an ordinary one.
If price is not an issue then some special types of diamonds include a 12 carat diamond tennis bracelet. This would obviously go well if your partner loved tennis. Or if your partner doesn't like tennis but you would still like to get them something special, a 5 carat princess cut pink diamond would be a great alternative.
Overall the carat of a ring really can make a difference to the price, but there are other factors included too.
