Antique Brooches

Brooches have been around for many years and have always been a popular jewelry item. You may have seen your mother or grandmothers wearing a brooch. You may even own that very same brooch today not realizing that it is an antique brooch. Antique brooches make a great accessory and provide an opportunity for people to accessorize in an elegant and classy way.

When brooches were first made years ago, there was one particular brooch, the cameo brooch that was worn by many, if not most, women. This cameo brooch was the design of a portrait of a woman carved into a stone. There are still some heirloom cameo brooches around for sale, but if you manage to find one, it will be quite costly. There are many replica cameo brooches on the market, however. With all the jewelers, jewelry designs and different materials available today, there are many different kinds and styles of brooches, including antique brooches.

One particular gorgeous brooch is the Victorian antique diamond and pearl brooch. The brooch is ½-carat claw set diamond surrounded by pearls in a flower design and set on yellow gold. A safety chain and clip is used to attach it to your garment. The antique or vintage bluebird brooch which was popular around 75 years ago is set in yellow gold with sapphire rhinestones and sky blue enamel with white on the feathers and red for the eyes. The wings are also filled with diamond rhinestones. Another version of this brooch is blue enamel with a brass bottom and clasp. These were made during the same period as the antique art deco brooch. One in particular is covered with champagne pearls with a large pearl on the center and surrounded by rhinestones.

A vintage or antique mosaic brooch will remind you of your days in school as a child making mosaic art out of every color you can think of. This is exactly what these brooches look like with no two the same. Each combination of colors is made to look like a flower or other design. If you like bright colors and big gemstones, there area some beautiful antique costume brooches available on the market today. Many have huge rhinestones with gold plated backgrounds. You will look some a movie star, but at half the cost.

The antique Tiffany gold leaf brooch is a beautiful and exquisite piece of jewelry in 14k gold with a cultured pearl on the end of the leaf. This is similar to the brooches of the old estates in the 60s. If an antique turquoise brooch appeals to you, a sterling silver turquoise art deco brooch will be like owning a piece of yesteryear. In the early 1900s they also made the traditional cameo brooch in a shade of turquoise.
